Connecting Info

On this page you will find info on how to connect to the server and test what you just built.

Client

You will need to have a Client to connect.

hosts file and hosts troubleshooting

The hosts file needs to be modified to connect.

Firewall and Routers

To allow others to connect:
You will need to open ports: TCP 7777, 2106, 2009, 80, and DNS (TCP/UDP) 53 on your firewall.
Ports 7777 and 2106 are needed for server, others for client or GameGuard.
Basically, if you want to run only the server you need only ports 7777 and 2106, but for someone who is connecting to your server all ports must be allowed.
You will also have to forward those ports if you use a router.
Because the variations are to many, we can not tell you how to do either.
Contact your hardware/software manufacturer for further information on how to do this,
or have a look at http://www.portforward.com

  • Example:

WinXP Firewall

  1. Click Start, and then click My Network Places.
  2. Under Network Tasks, click View Network Connections. (Or, right-click My Network Places on the desktop, and then click Properties.)
  3. Right-click the connection that you use for the Internet, and then click Properties.
  4. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Settings.

Note: If the Settings button is unavailable, ICF is not enabled on this connection, and you do not have to open any ports (because they are all already open).

  1. Click Add to open a new port.
  2. In the Description box, type a friendly name. For example, type File Sharing : Port 445.
  3. In the Name or IP address of the computer hosting this service on your network box, type 127.0.0.1.

Note: You can specify the IP address of an internal computer. But you typically will use 127.0.0.1.

  1. In the External port and Internal port boxes, type the port number. Generally, this number is the same.
  2. Click either TCP or UDP, and then click OK.
  3. Repeat steps 1 through 9 for each port that you want to open.
